Tortillas

Method

Tortilla Preparation

  1. 1

    Flour Tortillas

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and water. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Divide into 8 equal balls, cover with a damp cloth, and let rest for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Corn Tortillas

In a mixing bowl, combine corn masa flour, salt, and warm water. Mix until a dough forms. Divide into 8 equal balls and cover with a damp cloth. Let rest for 15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cooking the Tortillas

Roll each ball of dough into a thin circle using a rolling pin. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each tortilla for about 1 minute on each side until lightly browned.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Marinating the Chicken or Steak

In a bowl, combine olive oil, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and lime juice. Add the chicken or steak, ensuring it's evenly coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 5

    Cooking the Filling

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken or steak and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked. Remove from heat and slice into strips.

  3. 6

    Sautéing Vegetables

In the same skillet, add bell peppers and onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they are tender. Mix with the sliced chicken or steak.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Assembling the Fajitas

Place a portion of the filling mixture on a tortilla, add desired toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheese, and cilantro. Roll up the tortilla and serve immediately.
