Cranberry Juice Base
Make simple cranberry beverage
In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of the cold water. Warm over medium heat, stirring, just until the sugar dissolves (about 2–3 minutes). Do not boil. Remove from heat and let cool 2 minutes.
In a large pitcher, pour the 6 cups cranberry juice and the remaining 1.5 cups cold water. Stir to combine.
Stir in the fresh lemon juice and optional orange zest. Chill in refrigerator at least 30 minutes before serving so flavors marry (or serve immediately over ice for a quicker option).
Garnish & Serve
Fill individual serving glasses with ice cubes. Pour cranberry beverage over ice, leaving a little headspace.
Serve cold. Keeps in refrigerator, covered, up to 4 days. Stir before serving as some settling may occur.
