Whiskey Ingredients
Method
Whiskey Brewing Process
- 1
Mashing
In a large pot, combine barley, corn, and rye with 5 liters of water. Heat the mixture to 150°F (65°C) and maintain this temperature for about 1 hour to allow the grains to convert starches into sugars.
- 2
Cooling
After mashing, cool the mixture down to around 70°F (21°C) to prepare for fermentation.
- 3
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled mash into a fermentation vessel. Add 1 tsp of yeast and stir gently to mix. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment for about 5 to 7 days at room temperature, until bubbling stops.
- 4
Distillation
Once fermentation is complete, transfer the liquid (called 'wash') to a still. Heat the wash to distill the alcohol. Collect the distillate, which is the raw whiskey.
- 5
Aging
Pour the distilled whiskey into charred oak barrels. Store the barrels in a cool, dark place for at least 3 years to allow the whiskey to develop its flavor.
- 6
Bottling
After aging, the whiskey can be filtered and diluted with water if necessary. Bottle the whiskey and seal it for storage or enjoyment.
