If desired, rim the cocktail glass with salt. To do this, rub a lime wedge around the rim, then dip the rim into a plate of salt. Set aside.

In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, cognac, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and orange bitters. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
