Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

  5. 5

    Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour Batter into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

  7. 7

    Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Strawberry Compote Directions

  1. 9

    Prepare the Strawberries

In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar.

  2. 10

    Cook the Strawberries

Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries release their juices and the sugar dissolves.

  3. 11

    Add Lemon Juice

Stir in the lemon juice and continue to cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  4. 12

    Cool the Compote

Remove from heat and let the compote cool. It will thicken more as it cools.
