Tea
Method
Tea
Pre-warm the cup (optional)
While the water heats, pour a small amount of the hot water into your teacup to warm it, then discard that water.
Steep the tea
Place 1 tablespoon of loose black tea in an infuser or use one tea bag and put it in the teapot or cup. Pour the freshly boiled water over the tea. For black tea, steep 3 to 5 minutes depending on desired strength (3 minutes for mild, 5 minutes for strong). If using green or delicate teas, steep 2 to 3 minutes instead and use water just below boiling.
Remove tea leaves
After the desired steep time, remove the tea bag or infuser to stop extraction and avoid bitterness.
Sweeten and add milk or lemon
Add 1 teaspoon of sugar (or 1 teaspoon honey) while the tea is hot so it dissolves easily. If you prefer milk tea, stir in 1 tablespoon of milk. If you prefer lemon, add a slice of lemon instead of milk (note: do not add milk and lemon together, it will curdle). Taste and adjust sweetness or milk to preference.
Serve
Give the tea a final stir and serve immediately while hot.
