Cold Brew Base

Method

Cold Brew Base

1

Combine coffee and water

In a large jar or pitcher, add 1 cup coarsely ground coffee. Pour in 4 cups cold filtered water, making sure all grounds are saturated. Stir gently to ensure even extraction.

2

Steep

Cover the jar or pitcher with a lid or plastic wrap. Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 18 hours. Longer steeping yields stronger concentrate.

3

Strain

After steeping, strain the coffee concentrate through a fine mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or a nut milk bag into a clean container. Squeeze or press gently to extract as much liquid as possible, leaving the grounds behind.

4

Store concentrate

Refrigerate the cold brew concentrate for up to 1 week in a sealed container. This recipe yields about 3 to 3.5 cups of concentrate, depending on grind absorption.

Sweetener & Flavor (optional)

5

If you plan to sweeten your chiller, mix 2 tablespoons simple syrup with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of ground cinnamon into about 1/2 cup of the cold brew concentrate. Taste and adjust sweetness or flavor. Simple syrup blends easily into cold drinks; if using granular sugar, dissolve it first in warm water to make syrup.

Milk & Finishes

6

Assemble the Coffee Chiller

Fill a tall glass with 1 cup ice cubes. Pour 1/2 to 2/3 cup cold brew concentrate over the ice (adjust strength to preference). Add 1/2 cup milk, oat milk, or cream. If you used the sweetener mix, add it now and stir gently to combine. If the drink is too strong, top with up to 1/2 cup cold water to dilute.

7

Serve

Garnish with a light sprinkle of cinnamon if desired. Serve immediately with a straw. Keep remaining concentrate refrigerated for future chillers.
