Method
Cocktail Base
Prepare glass
Fill a double old-fashioned glass (or tiki mug) with crushed ice to chill while you mix.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add aged rum, white rum, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and simple syrup.
Add ice and shake
Add a handful of ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
Strain into glass
Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass and fill it three-quarters full with fresh crushed ice. Strain the shaken cocktail over the crushed ice, allowing it to mound slightly above the rim.
Float & Garnish
Float Kraken rum
Slowly pour 0.5 oz Kraken Black Spiced Rum over the back of a bar spoon held just above the drink surface so the dark rum floats in a thin layer on top, creating a dramatic contrast.
Garnish and finish
Skewer the maraschino cherry and place it at the base of a pineapple wedge. Perch the pineapple wedge on the rim and add the lime wheel. Optionally, slap the lime wheel gently between your palms to release aromatic oils before tacking it to the rim.
Serve
Serve with a short straw or stirrer so guests can break the float into the drink as they like. Provide a napkin for any dark rum runoff.
