Method

Cocktail

1

Measure and combine

Add 2 oz Hudson NY Bourbon to a chilled mixing glass using a jigger. Add 2 dashes of Regan's Orange Bitters. If you prefer a slightly sweeter, softer profile, add 1/4 teaspoon simple syrup (optional).

2

Stir and chill

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir gently with a bar spoon for about 20–30 seconds (or until the outside of the mixing glass feels cold). The goal is to dilute roughly 15–20% and properly chill the spirit without aerating.

3

Prepare glass and ice

Place one oversized ice cube into a chilled old fashioned glass. If using a frozen clear cube, handle quickly to avoid warming.

4

Strain

Using a strainer, pour the stirred bourbon and bitters over the oversized ice cube in the old fashioned glass, ensuring minimal splashing to preserve clarity and temperature.

Garnish & Finish

5

Express the orange peel

Hold an orange peel over the glass, skin side down about 3–4 inches above the surface. Give the peel a firm pinch to express the oils over the drink, then run the peel around the rim to coat it with oils and place it on top of the ice as a twist garnish.

6

Serve

Present the cocktail immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the Hudson bourbon's grain-forward character, brightened by the orange bitters and aromatic oils from the expressed peel.

Tools & Notes

7

If you prefer a clearer, slower-melting ice cube, use a directional-freezing mold or purchase clear ice. Adjust simple syrup to taste — Hudson NY is characterful and often enjoyed neat or with only bitters; syrup is optional. For a slightly different aromatic profile, twist the orange peel after warming it slightly by rolling between your palms before expressing.
