Green Iced Tea Base

Sweetener (optional)

Citrus & Garnish (optional)

Method

Green Iced Tea Base

1

Bring water to simmer

Pour 1 liter (1000 ml) of water into a kettle or saucepan and bring it to just below boiling (about 80–85°C / 176–185°F). Green tea is best brewed with water that is hot but not boiling to avoid bitterness.

2

Steep the tea

Place 4 green tea bags into a heatproof pitcher. Pour the hot water over the tea bags, fully submerging them. Cover and steep for 3 minutes for a bright, clean flavor (up to 4 minutes if you prefer stronger tea). Do not over-steep to avoid astringency.

3

Remove tea bags and cool

Remove and gently squeeze the tea bags against the side of the pitcher to extract liquid, then discard the bags. Allow the brewed tea to cool at room temperature for 10–15 minutes.

4

Dilute with cold water

Add 1 liter (1000 ml) of cold water to the cooled brewed tea to reach a balanced strength and chill it slightly.

Sweetener (optional)

5

Sweeten with sugar

If using granulated sugar: while the brewed tea is still warm (before adding the cold water), stir in 4 tablespoons granulated sugar until fully dissolved. If you prefer not to heat the sugar in the tea, substitute with 60 ml simple syrup and stir into the cooled tea until combined.

6

Simple syrup note

To make simple syrup: combine equal parts granulated sugar and water (e.g., 100 g sugar + 100 ml water), bring to a simmer until sugar dissolves, cool, and store refrigerated. Use 60 ml for this recipe if preferred.

Citrus & Garnish (optional)

7

Prepare citrus

Thinly slice the lemon and lime into rounds or half-moons. Reserve a few slices for garnish and squeeze 1–2 tablespoons of juice (about half a lemon or lime) into the pitcher, to taste. Stir to combine.

8

Chill and serve

Fill glasses with 3–4 ice cubes each. Pour the prepared green iced tea over ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon or lime slice and a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately.
