Alfredo Sauce
Finishing & Serving
Method
Alfredo Sauce
Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to incorporate and avoid lumps. Once milk is fully incorporated and mixture is smooth, add the heavy cream and continue to whisk.
Increase heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, whisking frequently. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken and coats the back of a spoon.
Reduce heat to low. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan a handful at a time, allowing it to melt completely and create a silky texture. Avoid boiling once the cheese is added to prevent separation.
Season the sauce with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and the optional grated nutmeg. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
If the sauce becomes too thick, thin it with up to 2 tablespoons of milk, adding a little at a time until you reach desired consistency for a side portion (should be creamy and pourable).
Finishing & Serving
Remove the sauce from heat. Stir in the chopped parsley and optional lemon zest to brighten the flavor.
Transfer the Alfredo to a small warm serving bowl. For a side serving, portion about 1/2 cup per person alongside pasta, vegetables, or proteins.
Garnish with an extra dusting of grated Parmesan and a little cracked black pepper if desired. Serve immediately; Alfredo thickens as it cools—reheat gently over low heat with a splash of milk if needed.
