Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it lightly.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

Making the Batter

  1. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the burnt orange zest, burnt orange juice, and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until combined.

  3. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Pour Batter into Pan

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

  2. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 8

    Cool

Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Topping

  1. 9

    Prepare Topping

Once cooled, mix the powdered sugar with a small amount of burnt orange juice until you reach a drizzle-able consistency.

  2. 10

    Decorate

Drizzle the icing over the cooled cake and top with burnt orange slices for decoration.
