Citrus + Fresh

Method

Citrus + Fresh

1

Juice and Prep

Juice one medium lime to yield about 1 oz (30 ml) of fresh lime juice. Slice a thin wheel from the remaining half lime for garnish. Peel and thinly slice or roughly chop half a medium cucumber (about 1/2 cucumber). Reserve one or two thin cucumber slices for garnish if desired.

2

Muddle the chopped cucumber gently in the bottom of a cocktail shaker or mixing glass to release bright cucumber juices and aroma (about 8-10 gentle presses). Do not over-muddle into a pulp; you want fresh cucumber flavor and a little texture.

Herbal + Floral

3

Prepare Hibiscus & Ginger

Brew a strong hibiscus tea using 1 hibiscus tea bag or 1 tbsp dried hibiscus in 6 oz (180 ml) near-boiling water for 6–8 minutes. Strain and chill until cold (can be made ahead). If using store-bought unsweetened hibiscus beverage, ensure it's well chilled.

4

Add 4 oz chilled hibiscus tea and 0.5 tbsp freshly grated or finely minced ginger into the shaker with the muddled cucumber. Add the 1 oz fresh lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice, cap, and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds to chill and integrate flavors.

5

After shaking, double-strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with 1 cup of fresh ice to remove cucumber solids and ginger bits. Double-straining is recommended for a smooth mouthfeel.

Fizz + Finish

6

Top the strained mixture with 4 oz chilled sparkling water. Gently stir once or twice to combine, preserving carbonation.

7

Garnish with the reserved cucumber slice, a lime wheel on the rim, and optionally a fresh mint sprig slapped once to release aroma. Serve immediately.

8

Estimated nutrition note: the drink contains no added sugar (sweetness comes only from natural cucumber and hibiscus trace amounts). Total volume yields one cocktail of approximately 86 calories depending on hibiscus strength and exact ingredient sizes.
