Determine serving temperature: full‑bodied Napa Cabernets are best served slightly below room temperature, around 60–65°F (15–18°C). If the bottle is warm, place it in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes; if it is too cold, let it sit at room temperature for 20–30 minutes. Use a wine thermometer if available to confirm temperature.

Chill or bring to serving temperature

Wipe the bottle neck with a clean cloth. Cut the foil below the lip and remove the capsule. Place a cloth under the bottle to catch any drips. Use a waiter’s corkscrew or winged opener to remove the cork carefully to avoid sudden popping which can disturb sediment if present.

Inspect and open bottle

Hold the bottle over a decanter or carafe and pour slowly in one steady stream. For young, robust Cabernets with noticeable tannin or any bottle that may contain sediment, decant for 45–90 minutes prior to serving to allow the wine to breathe and soften. If the wine is older and you suspect sediment, use a steady light to watch the neck as you pour and stop when sediment approaches the bottle neck. If you choose not to decant, simply swirl gently in the glass before tasting.

Decanting (recommended)

Set out large red wine glasses—one per guest. Rinse glasses with a small amount of filtered water if desired and dry with a lint‑free cloth. Arrange cheese, cured meats, and chocolate on a small board, placing milder items first so flavors don’t overpower subsequent sips. Provide napkins.

Prepare glasses and accompaniments

Pour about 3–5 oz (90–150 ml) per glass, filling roughly one‑third of the bowl to allow room for swirling. Begin the tasting sequence: look (observe color and clarity), swirl (release aromas), sniff (identify primary and secondary aromas like dark fruit, cedar, tobacco, or vanilla), taste (note acidity, tannin, fruit concentration, alcohol warmth, and finish).

Pour and evaluate

Pair the Method Cabernet with the prepared accompaniments or with grilled red meats, hearty stews, or rich mushroom dishes. Take small bites of food between sips to assess how the flavors interact—fatty cheeses and cured meats will soften tannins, and dark chocolate highlights the wine’s ripe fruit and cocoa notes.

Enjoy with food

If there is leftover wine, re‑cork with the original cork or a reusable stopper and refrigerate upright to minimize oxidation. Use within 3–5 days for best flavor; fuller‑bodied, high‑alcohol wines like this may hold up toward the longer end if sealed tightly.
