Cold Brew Concentrate

Method

Cold Brew Concentrate

1

Place the coarsely ground coffee in a large jar or pitcher.

2

Add 4 cups cold filtered water, making sure all grounds are saturated. Stir gently to combine.

3

Cover the jar and steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12–18 hours. Longer steep (up to 18 hours) yields a stronger, more concentrated brew.

4

After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth or a coffee filter into a clean container. Discard grounds. This yields cold brew concentrate (about 1–1.25 cups).

5

Store concentrate refrigerated for up to 1 week. Use immediately for the iced coffee in the Assembly section.

Assembly

6

Prepare glass

Fill a tall glass with 1 cup of ice cubes.

7

Combine liquids

Pour 1 cup cold brew concentrate over the ice. Add 1 cup cold water or milk to dilute to drinking strength (adjust ratio to taste; use less water for stronger coffee).

8

Sweeten

Stir in 2 tablespoons simple syrup (or preferred sweetener) and 1 teaspoon flavored syrup if using. Add a 1/4 teaspoon pinch of salt if desired to round flavors.

9

Add cream

Top with 2 tablespoons milk, cream, or dairy-free alternative. Stir gently to combine and create a marbled effect, or leave layered if preferred.

10

Taste and adjust: add more sweetener, milk, or dilute with extra cold water if too strong. If using store-bought cold brew concentrate, use the same assembly steps and adjust concentrate quantity to taste.

11

Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer. Garnish with a light sprinkle of cocoa powder or a twist of citrus zest if desired.
