Base Energy Drink (makes ~1 liter)
Flavor & Performance Boosters (optional)
Method
Base Energy Drink (makes ~1 liter)
- 1
Brew tea
Bring 300 ml of water to just under boiling. Steep green or black tea for 3–5 minutes to make a strong brew. Strain and cool to room temperature (about 10–15 minutes) or chill in fridge.
- 2
Dissolve sweetener and salts
In a heatproof measuring cup or small saucepan, combine the sweetener (50 g), sea salt (1 tsp) and bicarbonate of soda (1 tsp) with 120 ml of the fresh citrus juice. Stir until dissolved. If using honey, warm gently (do not boil) to help it dissolve, then cool slightly.
- 3
Mix base
In a 1.25–1.5 liter pitcher, combine 1 liter cold water, the cooled tea (250 ml), and the dissolved sweetener–salt–bicarbonate mixture. Stir vigorously for 30–60 seconds until evenly combined. Taste and adjust sweetness or salt if desired.
- 4
Add caffeine (optional)
If adding extra caffeine, dissolve 100 mg caffeine powder or the equivalent from tablets into a small amount of water and stir thoroughly into the pitcher. Use caution: 100 mg is roughly one average cup of coffee; adjust down for lower tolerance or omit for children/pregnant people.
- 5
Chill
Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld. Alternatively, serve immediately over ice for quick cooling.
Flavor & Performance Boosters (optional)
- 6
Prepare ginger infusion (optional)
If using fresh ginger, bruise or grate the 10 g and steep in 100 ml hot water for 5–10 minutes. Strain and add the ginger infusion to the pitcher for a spicy note and mild digestive/alertness benefits.
- 7
Add electrolytes & vitamins (optional)
Stir in 1 tablespoon electrolyte powder and/or 1 teaspoon B-complex powder or liquid if using. These add minerals and B-vitamins to support energy metabolism. Mix thoroughly until dissolved.
- 8
Finish and serve
Add 1 teaspoon natural flavor extract if desired to emphasize berry/citrus/mango notes. Taste and adjust. Fill glasses with 3 ice cubes each (about 6 cubes total listed), pour the energy drink, stir briefly and serve chilled.
