Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

Prepare honey syrup (if not ready)

Combine equal parts honey and warm water (for this recipe, mix 1/4 cup honey with 1/4 cup warm water), stir until homogeneous and let cool. Measure 0.5 oz for the cocktail.

  2. 2

Add 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz honey syrup, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz amaro, 0.25 oz ginger liqueur (or ginger syrup) and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

Fill the shaker with ice (about 2/3 full). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and well-chilled.

  4. 4

Double-strain the shaken cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer (and the shaker strainer) into a chilled coupe glass or an old-fashioned glass over one large ice cube, depending on preference.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 5

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then run the twist around the rim and drop it into the cocktail.

  2. 6

Optionally skewer a piece of candied ginger and rest it on the rim or drop it into the drink for a sweet-spicy contrast.

  3. 7

Serve immediately and enjoy. The profile should be warming and rounded, with honey and ginger brightening the bourbon and the amaro adding herbal bitterness.
