Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a tall pilsner or highball glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice and cold water while you prepare other ingredients to ensure the beer stays fizzy and cold.
- 2
Prepare lime and optional syrup
If using fresh lime juice, cut and roll the lime to release juices, then halve and squeeze 1/2 oz (about half a lime) into a small measuring jigger. If you prefer a slightly sweeter cocktail, measure 1/4 oz simple syrup.
- 3
Build the drink
If you chilled your glass with ice water, dump the ice water and lightly fill the glass with fresh ice cubes (optional). Pour the fresh lime juice and the simple syrup (if using) into the bottom of the glass. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the juice mixture if you want an aromatic lift.
- 4
Top with beer
Slowly and gently pour 12 oz of cold premium lager down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and create a gentle head. Pouring down the side reduces foaming and keeps the beer lively.
- 5
Garnish and serve
Give the drink a very gentle stir (one or two turns) to integrate the lime and optional syrup without flattening the beer. Garnish the rim with a lime wheel or wedge. Serve immediately while the beer is cold and effervescent.

Notes
This recipe yields one serving. Adjust lime and simple syrup to taste. If you prefer a more traditional 'High Life' (beer only), omit lime, syrup, and bitters and simply serve the chilled beer in a pilsner glass.
