Method
Cooking Instructions
Prepare the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add Marinara Sauce
Stir in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Cook the Noodles
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Mix the Ricotta Filling
In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, chopped basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.
Assemble the Lasagna
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles, remaining meat sauce, and topping with the remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Prepare Seasonal Vegetables
While the lasagna is baking, sauté the seasonal vegetables in olive oil until tender. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve
Allow the lasagna to cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with sautéed seasonal vegetables on the side.
