Drink

Method

Prepare glass

1

Choose an old-fashioned (rocks) glass or a short tumbler. Chill the glass briefly if desired by filling it with ice water while you gather ingredients, then discard the water and dry the glass.

Build the cocktail

2

Fill the chilled rocks glass three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes (about 4–6 cubes).

3

Pour 1 oz Campari over the ice.

4

Add 1 oz sweet vermouth (rosso) directly into the glass.

5

Top with approximately 2 oz chilled soda water. Pour gently so as not to over-dilute; adjust soda to taste for a slightly lighter or stronger drink.

6

If using, add 1 dash Angostura bitters on top and gently give the drink one short stir (about 4–6 gentle half-turns) to integrate ingredients without losing carbonation.

Garnish and serve

7

Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface by holding the peel skin-side down over the glass and giving it a quick twist, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink as garnish. Alternatively use a lemon twist.

8

Serve immediately with a short stirring spoon or a straw if desired.
