Ingredients: 12 fl oz lager beer (cold); 4 fl oz fresh orange juice (preferably chilled, pulp optional); 1 piece orange slice or twist (garnish); 3 ice cubes ice (optional); 1 tsp simple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)

Chill a tall beer glass or pilsner glass in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes or fill it briefly with ice water, then pour out the water. If you prefer an icy Beermosa, add 2–3 fresh ice cubes to the glass now; otherwise leave the glass empty so the beer retains its carbonation.

Chill and prepare glass

If you want a slightly sweeter beermosa, add 1 teaspoon of simple syrup or honey to the bottom of the chilled glass. Stir briefly to dissolve. Adjust to taste — some people prefer no sweetener.

Optional sweeten

Pour 4 fl oz (about 120 ml) of fresh, chilled orange juice into the glass. Pour gently down the side of the glass to reduce agitation and preserve carbonation when you add the beer.

Add orange juice

Slowly pour 12 fl oz (about 355 ml) of cold lager beer over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass so it floats on top of the juice, creating a layered effect and preserving bubbles. Pour steadily until the glass is nearly full, leaving a small head of foam (about 1/2 inch).

Top with lager

Garnish with an orange slice or twist on the rim. Serve immediately while cold and carbonated. If ice was used, note it will dilute the drink as it melts — remove ice if you prefer no dilution.
