Martini
Cucumber-mint maceration & garnish
Equipment (optional)
Method
Cucumber-mint maceration & honey syrup
Make honey syrup
Combine 1 tsp honey and 1 tablespoon warm water in a small container; stir until fully dissolved to make honey syrup (measures above account for 0.5 oz used).
Macerate cucumber and mint
Place 2 cucumber slices and 6 mint leaves in a mixing glass or small bowl. Add 0.5 oz of the honey syrup and gently muddle 6–8 times — press just to release juice and aroma, avoid pulverizing mint to prevent bitterness. Let sit 1–2 minutes to marry flavors.
Extract cucumber juice
After muddling, press the mixture through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a measuring spoon or small cup to collect approximately 0.5 oz cucumber-forward juice. Discard solids or reserve for garnish.
Build & chill
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2.5 oz Hendrick's Gin, 0.25 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz honey syrup (from earlier), 0.5 oz cucumber juice, and 0.25 oz fresh lime juice. Add 4 ice cubes to the shaker.
Stir
Stir the mixture gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full strokes) until well chilled and slightly diluted. Stirring preserves clarity and bright texture for a straight-up martini.
Double strain and serve
Empty the chilled glass of ice/water. Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just a fine strainer), pour the cocktail into the chilled martini glass to remove ice shards and any bits of cucumber or mint.
