Tea Base

Peppermint Flavor

Sweetener & Cream (optional)

Method

Tea Base

1

Boil water

Bring 12 fl oz (about 350 ml) of fresh water to a near boil (about 205°F / 96°C). For best decaf flavor, do not overboil—heat until steaming and just reaching the boil.

2

Steep tea

Place 2 decaf black tea bags (or 2 teaspoons if using loose-leaf) into a teapot or heatproof container. Pour the hot water over the tea and steep for 3–4 minutes for a balanced strength. Remove tea bags or strain leaves when done to avoid bitterness.

Peppermint Flavor

3

Bruise leaves

While the tea steeps, gently bruise 8 fresh peppermint leaves between your fingers or with the back of a spoon. This releases essential oils for a brighter peppermint note.

4

Add the bruised peppermint leaves to the steeping tea immediately after removing the tea bags. Let the leaves infuse in the hot tea for 1–2 minutes for a subtle fresh-mint flavor, or up to 4 minutes for a stronger mint presence. Remove the leaves when you reach the desired flavor intensity.

5

Stir in 1 teaspoon peppermint extract (start with 1/2 tsp if you prefer a lighter extract note) and mix thoroughly. Taste and adjust: add up to another 1/2 tsp extract if you want a stronger candy-like peppermint flavor (do this cautiously — extract is potent).

Sweetener & Cream (optional)

6

Sweeten the tea to taste. Stir in 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (or 1 tsp simple syrup) while the tea is hot so it dissolves fully. Adjust sweetness as desired.

7

If you prefer a creamier peppermint tea, add 2 tablespoons milk or dairy-free milk and stir until combined. Heat gently for another 30 seconds if you like the drink hotter, but avoid boiling.

Garnish

8

Pour the peppermint decaf tea into a mug. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon crushed peppermint candy or a small amount of crushed candy cane on top for a festive touch and extra mint-candy flavor.

9

Garnish with a fresh peppermint sprig on the rim or floated on top. Serve immediately.
