Irish Coffee
Method
Irish Coffee
Dissolve the sugar
Place the brown sugar cube in the warm glass. Pour the freshly brewed hot coffee (about 4 oz) over the sugar cube. Stir briskly with a spoon until the sugar cube is fully dissolved.
Add the whiskey
Pour 1.5 oz Jameson Irish whiskey into the sweetened coffee and stir once to combine.
Prepare the cream
Pour the cold heavy cream into a small bowl or measuring cup. Using a spoon, lightly whip the cream just enough to thicken it slightly so it will float (do not whip to soft peaks). It should be pourable but thicker than straight cream.
Float the cream
Hold a spoon upside-down just above the coffee surface and slowly pour the lightly whipped cream over the back of the spoon so it gently floats on top, creating a distinct cream layer above the coffee and whiskey.
Garnish and serve
Optionally, sprinkle a small pinch of grated nutmeg or a light dusting of cinnamon on the cream. Serve immediately without stirring so the drink is sipped through the cream.
