Virgin Mary Cocktail

Method

Virgin Mary Cocktail

1

Prepare Glass

Chill a tall highball glass (12–16 oz) if desired by placing it in the freezer for a few minutes or filling it with ice water while you assemble ingredients. Discard ice water before building the drink.

2

Mix Base

In a mixing glass or shaker, combine 6 oz tomato juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 4 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 0.5 tsp prepared horseradish, 2 dashes hot sauce, 1 tsp ground black pepper, 1/4 tsp celery salt, 1/8 tsp smoked paprika (if using), and 1/2 tsp pickle or olive brine (if using).

3

Adjust Seasoning

Stir the mixture vigorously for 20–30 seconds and taste. Adjust level of hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, lemon juice, or salt to your preference. For a spicier Virgin Mary add more hot sauce and horseradish; for brighter acidity add a little more lemon juice.

4

Build the Cocktail

Fill the chilled highball glass with fresh ice cubes (about 1 cup). Pour the mixed tomato juice mixture over the ice, stirring gently to combine and chill—about 10–15 seconds.

5

Garnish & Serve

Garnish with a celery stalk and a lemon wedge on the rim. Add a cherry tomato or cocktail olive on a pick if desired. Serve with a short stirring straw or swizzle stick so the drink can be re-stirred as you sip.
