Method

Bacon

1

Bring to room temperature

Remove the four bacon rashers from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. This helps them cook evenly.

2

Preheat pan

Place a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and let it warm for 30 seconds. The oil helps prevent sticking and encourages even browning.

3

Season

Lightly sprinkle both sides of each rasher with the 1 teaspoon black pepper. No additional salt is necessary for typical streaky bacon, but taste and adjust if desired.

4

Cook bacon

Lay the rashers in a single layer in the warm skillet without overlapping. Cook over medium heat for 3–4 minutes on the first side, until the edges begin to crisp and fat renders. Flip with tongs and cook 2–4 minutes more, adjusting time to reach your preferred doneness (shorter for chewier, longer for crisp). Total cooking time will be about 6–8 minutes.

5

Drain and rest

Transfer cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess fat. Let rest 1–2 minutes—bacon will crisp slightly as it cools.

Optional finishing

6

Sweet glaze (optional)

If using maple syrup or honey, brush about 1 teaspoon over the top of each hot rasher immediately after transferring to the paper towel-lined plate so it warms and sets slightly.

7

Garnish and serve

Sprinkle chopped parsley over the rashers for color if desired, or serve with a lemon wedge to squeeze for a bright contrast. Serve immediately while warm and crisp.
