Cocktail
Prepare espresso
Brew 1 oz of fresh espresso (or make 1 oz of very strong coffee). Let it sit for 20–30 seconds to lose the very hottest steam — it should still be hot but not boiling, which helps integrate the molasses.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add the Finlandia vodka (2 oz), coffee liqueur (0.5 oz), the hot espresso (1 oz), and the molasses (0.25 tsp). If you prefer the cocktail slightly sweeter, add the optional simple syrup (0.25 oz).
Dissolve molasses
Before adding ice, briefly stir or shake the shaker without ice (a quick dry shake for 8–10 seconds) to help dissolve the thick molasses into the warm espresso for an even texture and flavor.
Shake with ice
Add the ice (about 1 cup or enough to mostly fill the shaker). Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold and you see a good froth forming from the espresso.
Garnish
Float three coffee beans on the crema for garnish and serve immediately.
