Preparation

Coffee Base

1. Measure and grind

Weigh or measure 0.08 cups (about 14–15 g) of whole coffee beans. Grind to a consistency appropriate for your brewing method: medium-coarse for pour-over, coarse for French press, fine for Aeropress (short steep) or medium for automatic drip.

2. Heat water

Heat 8 oz (about 240 ml) of filtered water in a kettle to the ideal temperature for your brew: 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and wait 30 seconds.

3. Bloom (for pour-over / Aeropress)

Place the ground coffee in your brew device. Pour just enough hot water (about 30–40 ml) to saturate the grounds and let it bloom for 30–45 seconds to release CO2 and improve extraction.

4. Complete brew

Slowly pour the remaining hot water over the grounds in a steady spiral for pour-over, or add all water and steep for 3–4 minutes for French press before plunging. For Aeropress, follow your preferred inverted or standard method and total steep time of 1–2 minutes depending on grind. For drip, start the machine and let it complete the cycle. Aim for a total contact time of about 3–4 minutes for balanced extraction.

5. Serve

After brewing, immediately pour the coffee into a cup to prevent over-extraction and enjoy as a black coffee or proceed to the Extras & Adjustments section.

Extras & Adjustments

6. Temperature & milk

If serving hot and adding milk, warm 2 oz (60 ml) of milk or alternative separately (steamed or warmed on stove/microwave). Add to the brewed coffee to taste (typical ratio: 8 oz coffee + 2 oz milk).

7. Sweeten

If you prefer sweetened coffee, stir in 1 tsp simple syrup (or equivalent sweetener) into the hot coffee until dissolved. Adjust amount to taste.

8. Spice

For a spiced note, sprinkle up to 1 tsp ground cinnamon on top or stir into the coffee.

9. Iced option

To serve iced, fill a glass with 1 cup of ice. Pour the freshly brewed coffee over the ice immediately to cool it, then add milk or sweetener as desired. Note: brew a slightly stronger coffee (use 10–15% more grounds) if planning to serve over ice so the final flavor remains balanced.

10. Final adjustments

Taste and adjust milk, sweetener, or spice as needed. Serve immediately.

Equipment steps

11. Use a grinder to grind just before brewing for optimal flavor. Use a scale or measuring spoons to keep coffee-to-water ratio consistent (about 1:16 by weight; the recipe above is roughly that ratio). Clean equipment after use to maintain quality for future Guest Brews.
