Preparation

Preparation

1. Cutting the Fabric

Measure and cut one piece of cotton fabric measuring 18 inches by 15 inches for the main body of the tote bag. Cut another piece of the same size for the lining. Additionally, cut a strip measuring 4 inches by 24 inches for the handle.

2. Preparing Interfacing

Cut the fusible interfacing to the same size as the fabric pieces. This will help provide stability to your tote bag.

Sewing

3. Attach Interfacing

Iron the fusible interfacing onto the wrong side of the outer fabric piece. This step is crucial for making the bag sturdy.

4. Sewing the Body

Place the outer fabric and lining right sides together. Pin around the edges, leaving a small gap at the bottom for turning the bag right side out. Sew along the edges, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

5. Creating the Handle

Fold the handle strip in half lengthwise, right sides together. Sew along the long edge. Turn it right side out and press it flat.

Finishing Touches

6. Assembling the Bag

Turn the bag right side out through the gap left in the bottom. Push the lining into the bag. Attach the handle to the top edges of the bag, pinning in place and sewing securely.

7. Optional Decoration

If desired, use fabric paint and stencils to decorate the tote bag. Let it dry completely before using.
