Concha Dough

Method

Concha Preparation

1

Make the Dough

In a large bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

2

Shape the Conchas

Once dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball. Place on a baking sheet and cover with a cloth. Let rise for another 30 minutes.

3

Prepare the Topping

Mix a small amount of flour with food coloring to create a paste. Roll out and cut into shapes to place on top of the conchas before frying.

Frying and Serving

4

Fry the Conchas

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place each concha in the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

5

Assemble the UFO Concha

Cut each fried concha in half. Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the bottom half, drizzle with chocolate syrup, and add sliced strawberries. Top with the other half of the concha and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
