Dough Ingredients

Method

Making the Dough

1

Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

3

Combine Mixtures

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted unsalted butter, and the egg. Mix until a dough begins to form.

4

Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

5

First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking the Buns

6

Shape the Buns

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a round bun.

7

Second Rise

Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a cloth and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.

8

Preheat the Oven

While the buns are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

9

Prepare for Baking

Brush the tops of the buns with the egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

10

Bake the Buns

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
