Method
Prepare blueberry purée (if not pre-made)
Cook and strain (quick stovetop)
Place 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries and 1 tablespoon sugar (optional) in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until berries break down and liquid is released, about 4–6 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Press mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl using the back of a spoon to extract as much purée as possible. Discard seeds and solids. Cool to room temperature before using. Yields about 6–8 oz purée; reserve leftovers in fridge.
No-cook blender method
Combine 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries and 1 tablespoon simple syrup or honey in a blender. Pulse until smooth, then strain through a fine sieve to remove skins and seeds. Chill before using.
Build the cocktail
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice to chill and dilute the drink properly (about 1 cup of ice).
Add 1.5 oz Cointreau, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.75 oz blueberry purée into the shaker. (If you prefer sweeter, increase purée to 1 oz or add 0.25 oz simple syrup.)
Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is cold and the mixture is well combined and slightly frothy from the purée.
Top gently with 3 oz chilled Red Bull, pouring slowly down the side so the mixer layers slightly and retains some effervescence. Stir once gently with a bar spoon to integrate—do not over-stir or you will lose carbonation.
Garnish with 4–6 fresh blueberries skewered on a cocktail pick and a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.
Serve immediately with a straw if desired.
Notes & variations
Sweetness adjustment
To adjust sweetness: increase blueberry purée or add 0.25–0.5 oz simple syrup. For a tarter cocktail, increase lime juice to 1 oz.
Frozen variation
For a frozen slush: blend the shaken base with 1 cup ice and top with Red Bull poured slowly after scooping into a glass.
Substitutions
If substituting other energy drinks, choose a lighter-flavored option to avoid overpowering the orange and blueberry notes.
