Tea Selection

Method

Preparation

1

Heat water

Pour fresh cold water into a kettle and bring to a rolling boil for black teas (English Breakfast, Earl Grey). For green tea and jasmine tea, bring water to 175–185°F (just below boiling). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil then let cool for 2–3 minutes before using for green/jasmine.

2

Warm teapot and cups

Optional but recommended: pour a little of the hot water into the teapot and cups, swirl and discard. This keeps the brewed tea hotter and more consistent.

Brewing Individual Teas

3

English Breakfast

Place 1 English Breakfast tea bag into a teapot or into an infuser set in a cup. Pour 8 ounces (about 1 cup) of boiling water over the bag. Steep 3.5–5 minutes depending on desired strength (3.5 minutes for lighter, 5 minutes for strong). Remove the tea bag. Serve with milk and sugar or honey to taste, or enjoy black.

4

Earl Grey

Place 1 Earl Grey tea bag into a cup or teapot. Pour 8 ounces of boiling water over the bag. Steep 3–4 minutes. Remove the tea bag. Serve with a slice of lemon or a dash of milk (milk is optional — lemon and milk do not pair well together). Sweeten if desired.

5

Green Tea

Place 1 green tea bag into a cup or teapot. Pour 8 ounces of water heated to 175–185°F (cooled for 2–3 minutes after boiling). Steep 2–3 minutes to avoid bitterness. Remove the tea bag. Serve plain, or add honey and a lemon wedge if preferred.

6

Jasmine Tea

Place 1 jasmine tea bag into a cup. Pour 8 ounces of water at 175–185°F. Steep 2–3 minutes. Remove the tea bag and serve plain or with a mint sprig and a small drizzle of honey if desired.

Serving & Extras

7

Offer milk, honey or sugar, and lemon wedges at the table so guests can customize. For milk, warm gently if desired. Garnish green or jasmine tea with a fresh mint sprig if using. Provide a strainer or remove the infuser before serving if loose-leaf tea is used.

8

If preparing multiple cups at once in a teapot, use 1 tea bag per 8 ounces (cup) of water and steep times as above. Keep brewed black teas slightly longer (4–5 minutes) and remove tea bags promptly to avoid over-extraction and bitterness in green/jasmine teas.

9

Discard used tea bags and rinse pot/cups after serving. Estimated optional refrigerated leftover brewed tea can be stored up to 24 hours and consumed cold or reheated once.
