Method
Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure it is well chilled.
Combine ingredients
Add vodka (2 oz), triple sec (1 oz), fresh lime juice (0.5 oz), cranberry juice (1 oz), and simple syrup (0.25 oz) into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds — until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.
Prepare glass
If you used ice water to chill the glass, dump it out now. Optionally, run a lime wedge around the rim for extra aroma.
Strain
Double-strain the mixture into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a cocktail strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just the cocktail strainer) to remove ice shards and any pulp.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime twist or a thin lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately.
Tools & Notes
If you prefer a slightly sweeter Cosmopolitan, increase simple syrup to 0.5 oz or use a sweeter cranberry juice. For a more tart version, reduce soda or syrup and use more fresh lime juice. Use high-quality vodka and triple sec/Cointreau for a cleaner, brighter flavor.
