Gin Preparation Directions
- 1
Macerate the Botanicals
In a large glass jar, combine the juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, orris root, citrus peels, and cardamom pods. Pour the high-proof alcohol over the botanicals, ensuring they are fully submerged. Seal the jar tightly and let it sit in a cool, dark place for at least 24 hours, preferably up to 3 days for a more robust flavor.
- 2
Strain the Mixture
After the infusion period, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the solids. This will leave you with a clear liquid infused with the flavors of the botanicals.
- 3
Dilute with Water
Add the water to the strained liquid to dilute it to your desired strength. This usually brings the alcohol content down to approximately 40% ABV.
- 4
Bottle and Store
Transfer the gin to a clean bottle and seal it tightly. Store in a cool, dark place. The gin can be enjoyed immediately, but it will continue to develop flavor over time.
