Method
Tea Base
Brew the tea
Bring 4 cups of water to a near boil. Remove from heat and add 4 black tea bags (or equivalent loose-leaf). Steep for 4–5 minutes for strong flavor, then remove tea bags and discard. Let the brewed tea cool slightly (10–15 minutes).
Raspberry Syrup
Make raspberry syrup
Combine 1 cup raspberries, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer 5–7 minutes, mashing berries with a spoon or potato masher to release juice and color. Remove from heat and let steep 10 minutes for fuller flavor. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing solids to extract syrup. Discard seeds/solids. You should have about 1 to 1 1/4 cups of raspberry syrup.
Citrus & Balance
Add lemon and adjust
Stir 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon lime juice (if using) into the warm raspberry syrup. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as desired — add up to 1 tablespoon more lemon juice for brightness or up to 2 tablespoons water if syrup is too intense.
Finish & Serving
Combine and chill
In a pitcher, combine the brewed tea (cooled) and the raspberry-citrus syrup. Add 4 cups cold water and stir to combine. Taste and adjust: for a stronger raspberry flavor add more syrup (up to 1/2 cup), for lighter sweetness add more cold water. Chill the pitcher in the refrigerator at least 1 hour or serve immediately over ice.
