Protein Shake Base

Method

Protein Shake Base

  1. 1

    Measure and assemble

Measure 2 scoops of whey protein, 1.5 cups almond milk, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup rolled oats, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1/2 cup frozen banana slices, 1 tsp ground flaxseed and 1/2 cup ice. Place all measured ingredients into a high-speed blender jar.

  2. 2

    Blend

Secure the lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds until the mixture is smooth and the oats are fully integrated. Stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula if necessary, then blend another 10–15 seconds.

  3. 3

    Check consistency

If the shake is too thick, add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time (up to 2 tablespoons) or an extra 2–4 tablespoons almond milk and pulse to combine until desired consistency is reached.

  4. 4

    Taste and adjust

Taste the shake. If you want it sweeter, add 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup and blend 5–10 seconds. If adding cocoa powder or cinnamon for flavor, add now and blend briefly to combine.

  5. 5

    Serve

Pour the shake into a tall glass. Optionally garnish with a light dusting of cinnamon or a few chopped peanuts. Serve immediately cold.

Optional Flavor & Add-ins

  1. 6

For a chocolate variation: add 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder at the same time you add the protein powder. For extra cinnamon flavor add 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Sweeten sparingly with 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup if desired and blend until smooth.
