Impossible Ranch Base (vegan)

Method

Prepare and blend base

  1. 1

    Drain and measure tofu

If your silken tofu is packed in water, gently drain it and pat it lightly with paper towel to remove excess surface moisture. Measure 1 cup (approximately half a standard 12–14 oz package).

  2. 2

    Combine base ingredients in blender

Add the silken tofu, vegan mayonnaise, non-dairy milk, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard to a blender or food processor. This combination creates a creamy, tangy base that mimics ranch texture and flavor.

  3. 3

    Add dry seasonings

Add the garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill, dried parsley, dried chives, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to the blender. These dried herbs and spices form the classic ranch profile.

  4. 4

    Blend until smooth

Blend on medium-high for 30–60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides once or twice, until the dressing is completely smooth and homogenous. Taste and proceed to adjust seasoning in the next step.

Adjust, finish, and chill

  1. 5

    Taste and adjust seasoning

Taste the blended ranch. If it needs more tang, add up to 0.5 tsp more lemon juice or vinegar. For more savory depth, add up to 0.25 tsp more salt. If you want heat, add the optional hot sauce. If the dressing is too thick for your intended use (drizzle vs dip), add 1–2 tablespoons of cold water or more non-dairy milk, blending briefly after each addition until desired consistency is reached.

  2. 6

    Stir in fresh herbs (optional)

If using fresh chives and parsley, fold them into the blended ranch with a spoon rather than blending — this keeps flecks of fresh green and texture. Stir in 2 tablespoons chopped chives and 1 tablespoon chopped parsley.

  3. 7

    Chill to develop flavor

Transfer the ranch to an airtight container or jar. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour (ideally 3–4 hours or overnight) to let the dried herbs rehydrate and the flavors meld. The dressing will thicken slightly as it chills.

  4. 8

    Serve

Before serving, give the ranch a good stir. Adjust salt, pepper, or acidity again if needed. Use as a dip for vegetables, wings, or fries, or as a dressing for salads and bowls.
