Margarita Base

Method

Margarita Base

1

Make Simple Syrup (if needed)

If you don't have simple syrup or prefer homemade, combine equal parts sugar and water (for this recipe use 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water) in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, stirring until sugar fully dissolves. Cool to room temperature before use (about 10–15 minutes).

2

Mix the Cocktail

In a large pitcher or measuring container, combine 1 1/2 cups blanco tequila, 1/2 cup orange liqueur, 3/4 cup fresh lime juice, and 1/2 cup cooled simple syrup (or 1/2 cup agave nectar). Stir well to integrate. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity: add up to 2 tablespoons additional simple syrup for a sweeter profile or up to 2 tablespoons more lime juice for brighter acidity.

3

Optional Fruit or Spice Infusion

If making a flavored Delicias Margarita, muddle 1 cup of chosen fruit (hulled strawberries or diced mango) or 6–8 thin jalapeño slices in the bottom of a blender or mixing bowl. Add the mixed cocktail to the blender and pulse 3–4 times to combine (for frozen) or let the fruit steep in the liquid for 20–30 minutes for an on-the-rocks infused flavor, then strain if a clear drink is preferred.

Serving & Finish

4

Prepare Glass Rims

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each serving glass. Spread 1/4 cup coarse salt on a small plate and gently press/roll the rim into the salt to coat. Shake off any excess.

5

For Frozen (Blended) Margaritas

In a blender, add 4 cups of ice and the prepared cocktail mixture (or the cocktail-fruit blend if using fruit). Blend on high until smooth and slushy (about 20–40 seconds, depending on blender). If too thick, add 1/4 cup water or additional lime juice and blend briefly. Pour into prepared rimmed glasses and garnish with a lime wedge and a small slice of the fruit used (if any). Each batch as written yields about 6 cocktails; for single servings, use roughly 1 cup of blended mixture per drink.

6

For On the Rocks Margaritas

Fill each rimmed glass with 1 cup of fresh ice. Stir the cocktail mixture in the pitcher briefly, then strain or pour evenly into glasses (about 4–5 oz per serving). Garnish each with a lime wedge and optional fruit or jalapeño slice. Serve immediately.

7

Storage and Make-Ahead

Store any leftover mixed cocktail base (without ice) in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you've added fresh fruit, consume within 24 hours for best flavor. For frozen servings, prepare the mixture and freeze in ice cube trays for single-serve blender portions.
