Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Filet Mignon

Remove the filet mignon from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to 1 hour before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Meat

Pat the filet mignon dry with paper towels. Rub both sides of the meat with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until hot.

  2. 4

    Sear the Filet Mignon

Once the skillet is hot, place the filet mignon in the skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes without moving them to develop a nice crust.

  3. 5

    Flip and Cook

Flip the filet mignon and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer depending on your desired doneness.

Resting and Serving

  1. 6

    Rest the Meat

Remove the filet mignon from the skillet and place on a cutting board. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and let them rest for 5-10 minutes.

  2. 7

    Prepare Optional Sides

While the meat is resting, you can prepare optional sides like steamed asparagus or mashed potatoes.

  3. 8

    Serve

Slice the filet mignon against the grain and serve warm with your choice of sides.
