Cake Batter

For Greasing

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and prepare four ramekins by greasing them with butter and dusting with cocoa powder.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mixing the Batter

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined and slightly frothy.

  2. 4

    Add Chocolate Mixture

Slowly pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg mixture, stirring gently to combine.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Flour

Sift the all-purpose flour into the mixture and fold gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 2/3 full to allow space for the cakes to rise.

  2. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft and slightly jiggly.

  3. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Carefully run a knife around the edges and invert onto plates. Serve immediately, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
