Whiskey Cocktail
Method
Whiskey Cocktail
Chill glass
If you prefer the cocktail slightly cooler, place an Old-Fashioned glass (rocks glass) in the freezer for 5β10 minutes or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the drink.
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass add 0.5 oz simple syrup and 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Pour in 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey.
Ice and stir
Add enough ice to the mixing glass to fill it about two-thirds. Stir the mixture for 20β30 seconds (about 15β20 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted.
Strain and garnish
Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared glass over the large ice cube. Express the orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm squeeze to release oils, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Add a Luxardo or maraschino cherry on a pick if using.
Serve immediately and enjoy. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of citrus, bitters, and whiskey.
