Whiskey Cocktail

Method

Whiskey Cocktail

1

Chill glass

If you prefer the cocktail slightly cooler, place an Old-Fashioned glass (rocks glass) in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the drink.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass add 0.5 oz simple syrup and 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Pour in 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey.

3

Ice and stir

Add enough ice to the mixing glass to fill it about two-thirds. Stir the mixture for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass in the freezer, remove it. If you filled it with ice and water, discard the ice water and dry the glass. Place a large ice cube or sphere in the glass.

5

Strain and garnish

Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared glass over the large ice cube. Express the orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm squeeze to release oils, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Add a Luxardo or maraschino cherry on a pick if using.

6

Serve immediately and enjoy. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of citrus, bitters, and whiskey.
