Method

Prepare Ingredients

1

Chill the glass and ingredients

Place the sparkling wine bottle in an ice bucket or refrigerator at least 30 minutes before serving. Chill glasses in the refrigerator or by filling briefly with ice water, then discard ice water just before pouring.

2

Juice the oranges

Roll whole oranges on the counter with palm pressure to soften. Cut oranges in half and juice using a hand or electric juicer until you have the required amount (about 1 cup per 2 servings). Strain through a fine mesh if you prefer pulp-free juice.

Build the Cocktail

3

Optional: add liqueur or sweetener

If using orange liqueur for extra aromatic depth, pour 1/4 tablespoon into the chilled flute. If your oranges are not very sweet, add up to 1/2 teaspoon simple syrup to taste.

4

Using the classic ratio (1:1), pour equal parts chilled sparkling wine and fresh orange juice into the flute. For a single serving, pour 1/2 cup (120 ml) sparkling wine first (to preserve bubbles), then gently add 1/2 cup (120 ml) orange juice. Pour slowly and at an angle to minimize foam and overflow.

5

Gentle stir (optional)

If needed, give a very gentle one-turn stir with a bar spoon to combine. Avoid vigorous stirring to preserve effervescence.

Garnish and Serve

6

Garnish

Float an orange wheel on the rim or drop a thin orange slice into the drink. Add a mint sprig for aroma if desired.

7

Presentation

Serve immediately while sparkling. For a brunch service, prepare orange juice ahead and keep chilled; open the sparkling wine just before serving to maintain bubbles.
