Brew

Method

Brew

1

Measure Beans

Weigh or measure coffee beans to a ratio of roughly 1:16 (coffee to water). For 8 fl oz (about 237 ml) of water use ~14 g coffee. If using volume, that's about 2 tablespoons (0.033 cups) of whole beans.

2

Grind

Grind the beans to the grind size appropriate to your brew method: coarse for French press, medium for drip, medium-fine for pour-over. Grind just before brewing for optimal freshness.

3

Heat Water

Bring filtered water to 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let rest 30 seconds.

4

Bloom (for pour-over or drip)

Place filter and ground coffee in the dripper. Pour just enough hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee, ~28 g) to wet grounds evenly and let bloom for 30–45 seconds to release CO2.

5

Brew

Slowly pour the remaining water over the grounds in a circular motion (pour-over) or start the drip machine. For French press, add hot water, stir gently, cover, and steep 4 minutes before pressing. Total contact time should be: French press ~4 min, pour-over/drip ~2:30–3:30 min.

6

Serve

Once brewed, immediately pour coffee into a cup to avoid over-extraction from grounds sitting. Taste and adjust strength next time if needed.

Optional Add-ins

7

Add milk or cream to taste (about 1–2 tablespoons for a standard cup). Heat or froth milk if desired.

8

Stir in sweetener (start with 1 teaspoon) and a pinch of salt if you want to reduce bitterness. Taste and adjust.

Cleanup

9

Discard used grounds (compost if possible), rinse or wash the brew equipment, and store remaining beans in an airtight container away from heat and light.
