Method
Cocktail
Prepare shaker
Fill a cocktail shaker with the measured ice (about 1 cup) to chill and dilute the drink correctly.
Add spirits and mixers
Pour 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup into the shaker over the ice.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the shaker is cold to the touch and a slight frost forms.
Prepare glass
While shaking, rub the lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Dip the wet rim into the coarse salt so it adheres evenly. Fill the glass with fresh serving ice (about 3/4 cup).
Strain and serve
Double-strain the margarita into the prepared glass over the fresh ice using a Hawthorne strainer and, if available, a fine mesh strainer to catch any pulp. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.
Notes & Variations
Adjust sweetness: increase or decrease agave syrup to taste (use 0.25–0.75 oz). For a slightly richer flavor, use reposado tequila in place of blanco. For a frozen version, blend the cocktail ingredients with 1 to 1 1/2 cups of ice until smooth.
