Method

Bread Preparation

1

Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, salt, and charcoal powder (if using).

3

Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough starts to form.

4

Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

5

First Rise

Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

6

Shape the Bread

After the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a loaf or round shape as desired. Place it on a baking sheet or in a loaf pan.

7

Second Rise

Cover the shaped dough with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.

8

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough is rising.

9

Bake the Bread

Once the dough has risen again, place it in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

10

Cool the Bread

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.

Smoked Butter Preparation

11

Soften the Butter

In a small bowl, let the unsalted butter sit at room temperature until softened.

12

Mix Ingredients

Add liquid smoke and sea salt to the softened butter. Mix well until thoroughly combined.

13

Chill the Butter

Transfer the smoked butter to a small container and refrigerate until ready to use.
