Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the drink.

  2. 2

    Measure ingredients

Using a jigger, measure 1 oz Angostura bitters, 0.5 oz rye whiskey, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz orgeat, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Add 6 units of ice to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the mixture is well aerated.

  4. 4

    Double strain

Discard the ice/water from the chilled glass. Double strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any solids.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, rub the peel on the glass rim if desired, and drop it into the drink. Serve immediately.
