For the cocktail (single serving)
Optional/Batching (makes 6 servings)
Method
For the cocktail (single serving)
- 1
Chill glass
Place a Champagne flute or coupe in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with cold water while assembling ingredients to ensure the glass is well chilled.
- 2
Measure and combine
Add 1.5 oz gin, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker feels very cold. This chills and dilutes the mix properly.
- 4
Strain
Double-strain (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available) the shaken mixture into the chilled Champagne flute or coupe, leaving room for sparkling wine.
- 5
Top with sparkling wine
Carefully top the cocktail with about 3 oz chilled Champagne or other dry sparkling wine. Pour gently down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles and avoid foaming over.
- 6
Optional: Batch method (makes ~6 servings)
- 7
In a pitcher or large bottle, combine 9 oz gin, 3 oz fresh lemon juice, and 3 oz simple syrup. Stir or gently shake with ice just to chill and slightly dilute (about 10–15 seconds). Strain into a clean pitcher and refrigerate until cold.
- 8
When ready to serve, pour 3 oz of chilled sparkling wine into each chilled flute, then add 1.5 oz of the gin-lemon-syrup mix to each (or reverse order if preferred).
