Frappe Base

Method

Frappe Base

  1. 1

    Brew and chill

Brew a strong cup of coffee (about 1 cup). Allow it to cool to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes. If using cold brew concentrate, have it chilled and ready.

  2. 2

In a blender, combine the chilled brewed coffee, whole milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. If you want extra coffee intensity, add the optional 1/4 cup cold brew concentrate or 1/2 tsp instant espresso powder here.

Ice & Blending

  1. 3

    Add ice and blend

Add 1.5 cups of ice cubes to the blender. Secure lid and blend on high for 20–40 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth and frothy with a slightly slushy texture. Stop and scrape down the sides once if needed. If mixture is too thin, add a few more ice cubes and pulse; if too thick, add up to 2 tbsp milk or a splash of coffee.

Optional Add-ins & Toppings

  1. 4

Prepare glass (optional): For a chocolate-frappe, drizzle the inside of a tall glass with about 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup, swirling it so it clings to the sides.

  2. 5

Pour & top: Pour the blended frappe into the prepared glass. Top with about 2 tablespoons whipped cream. Drizzle additional chocolate or flavored syrup on top if desired, and finish with a sprinkle of chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder.

  3. 6

Serve immediately with a straw and long spoon so the whipped cream and syrup can be enjoyed through the drink.
