Blue-Ade Base

Garnish & Optional Adjustments

Method

Blue-Ade Base

  1. 1

    Make simple lemonade

In a medium pitcher, combine 1 cup fresh lemon juice and 0.5 cups organic cane sugar. Stir vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved. If sugar resists dissolving, warm 1/4 cup of the water, dissolve the sugar in the warm water, then add it back to the pitcher and stir to combine.

  2. 2

    Add water and cool

Pour in 3 cups cold water to the pitcher with the lemon-sugar mixture and stir until evenly mixed. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed (see optional step for honey/agave).

  3. 3

    Incorporate spirulina

Add 1 teaspoon organic blue spirulina powder to the lemonade. Whisk briskly for 30–45 seconds until the powder is fully dispersed and the lemonade turns an even vibrant blue. If small clumps remain, use a small mesh strainer and press them through with the back of a spoon, or blend briefly with an immersion blender for 5–10 seconds.

  4. 4

    Chill with ice

Add 2 cups of ice cubes to the pitcher and stir gently to chill the drink quickly without diluting too much. If you prefer a fizzier beverage, omit some ice and add up to 1 cup sparkling water just before serving (see optional directions).

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Prepare garnishes by slicing lemons into thin wheels and gently bruising mint leaves between your fingers to release aroma.

  2. 6

Pour Blue-Ade into glasses over additional ice if desired. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and 2–3 mint leaves. If using sparkling water for a fizzy version, top each glass with a splash (about 2–3 tablespoons per glass) just before serving to preserve effervescence.

  3. 7

Taste final drink and adjust sweetness if necessary: stir in honey or agave a little at a time to taste. Serve immediately.
